Discomblogulated

Dolls

You'll have to be patient with me for the next little while as I figure out my blog. I have a vision of what it should look like but I'm not a designer so I'm having technical issues actualizing my vision. I'm making it up basically.

My blog has been essentially the same since I started it nearly three years ago until this summer when I began adding pictures. Novel! So I was downloading them from my camera, and then uploading them to Blogger. But they were too big. So I was downloading them from my camera, optimizing them in Photoshop and then uploading them to Blogger. But then I wouldn't like them so I'd upload another one but I come to find the original is still stored somewhere in Picasa which I don't use. And I don't want my pictures there. I want them on Flickr. I don't know why except that I once posted a few of my paintings on Flickr and next thing I knew a guy from Italy purchased one on ETSY that he saw on Flickr and I was all, hmmmm....So now I download from my camera, optimize in iPhoto, save in my blog file, upload to Flickr, write a blog, go back and copy the location of the image, paste it into blogger and publish. THERE MUST BE AN EASIER WAY. I just tried to blog straight from Flickr and it was formatted crazy and that's when my head came off. Someone please put my head back on. I'm the cute brunette in this picture.

  1. You lost me at "download."

Where did you ever find that picture?
    It was perfect.

  2. I took it! It's a pile of Aviv's new dollies. Their heads and torsos and legs all come apart for switching around. kind of sick if you ask me. but kind of funny (and fun!).

  3. that photo is worth a bajillion words! it looks like a bunch of mothers beaten with exhaustion at the end of the day.

our photo process is nearly exactly the same. i save them first in photoshop, then upload to flickr. then i make every image private, so only i can see them, and so people in italy can't order prints. then i copy and paste the code into blogger. the only reason i upload them to flickr is that i can make the photos bigger this way - uploading them directly to blogger limits the image size.

    fabulous post title.

  4. p.s. do you save for web in photoshop? that reduces the file size quite a bit, so if someone did try to print it out, it wouldn't be a very good reproduction.

  5. Oh migOOdneSS that sounds complicated when all i do is download the camera onto my computer and then take the image i want from 'my documents' and post! wheeeeeee!

  6. Yes, I do the same: download my pictures in "my pictures" and take them from there to post them directly on blogger. And my pics are big, sometimes 4-9 MB, I never had problems. No Photoshop, no Picasa, no Flickr, just from "my pictures".

  7. yes, it used to be much less complicated until I discovered Flickr and found all these little editing tools that I LOVE. Anyway, you'll all be relieved (I'm sure everyone was losing sleep) that I figured out how to make it all work. mostly. good enough. good bye.

  9. Ooooh - I have struggled with the same frustrations on my blog. "There must be an easier way". Share what you learned, if you don't mind.

  10. You sound like me with my pics! They're stored everywhere and iin different versions and sizes!

The barbie dollheads remind me of a saying that we coined in our family: a dollhead is any project that looks like hell but functions. This is named after the Toy Story doll head with the spider body. Forgive me if you don't know about it.

here's to having our heads screwed on right. ;-)

  12. thanks for visiting! I came back to tell you that I love your artwork...I was looking at again after your visit.

I was just thinking that my girls were forever pulling the heads off of their Barbies. Now my grandson, Chase, pulls the heads off of his Star Wars action figures.

  13. Aimee - I do "save for web" in photoshop to reduce size (and print ability from the web). But now I just do that in iPhoto.

Nollyposh and Dana - it IS complicated! too much. but in fact when you post on blogger straight from you hard drive, the pictures are actually stored on Picasa - another google company. I just felt like Flickr was a better place for my pics to live, including my artwork...

Jane - I lost even myself

    Terri - Uch, purist. ;)

Laurie - getting the hang of Flickr. I'm copying and pasting the html for each pic into the top of my blogger entry (while in HTML mode). Does that make sense?

Lisa - I don't know why it is so enjoyable to pull off doll heads, but it is. For every generation it seems...thanks for coming back!

Doc - you are so sweet. your family is beautiful and you need to post more! sorry, no guilt from this blogger. the inspiration comes and goes, eh? (the eh was a hat tip to your canadian-ness).

  14. Ha! That is funny. That is WAY too much work there. At least you can use photoshop. That's pretty impressive.

I've been thinking about flicker... Maybe I will sign up since reading your story!

  15. that picture looks like my hallway floor right now. My girls get barbies as gifts but they don't like them, so they play with them without their heads. that's totally normal.
Can't wait to see the changes to your blog. I don't have any advice to you about the photo upload process but be sure and let us know if you find a better way.

i have the VERY SAME problem with all my photos.
from iphoto to blogger to flickr to photoshop blah blah blah.
    i don.t have any advice.
you are funny though and you have funny readers who comment.
i could hang out here for awhile!
look forward to see if the heads find a body.

  17. Your image of the dolls is fantastic. And I completely agree - there has to be an easier way for all of this picture business with blogger.
